Dark Age was hyped to be the best book since Golden Son for me by multiple people but it was kinda mid. It's confusing because everything was elevated: the prose, the story, the character development, and the plot twists. I think I still don't care about what's going on, the plot isn't plotting.

Like Iron Gold, I was only invested in anything Darrow-related. However, Lysander intrigued me, and Virginia was alright. Part 3 is when I started to care about the story and everyone who fell in battle was sad. But it wasn't enough to bring this from the 3-star friend zone. Unfortunate.

Anyway, I hear Lightbringer is Darrow's book, so hopefully, we'll be back on track.

This book was brutal in the best way possible. The trail of bodies is long. The main characters are put through hell. This book is really long, yet I was still wanting more when that last page turned. I can’t wait for the ending to the 2nd trilogy.

Even though I loved Dark Age, this book is thick and it definitely felt like it. This story definitely gave me a better appreciation for Iron Gold, but it was great to get Virginia’s POV and spend more time with the old gang.

Pierce Brown does a phenomenal job of exploring what it means to be a hero and the cost of the choices you have to make. I loved getting to see the war/rebellion from different sides and perspectives. The character growth amazes me. I definitely have a better appreciation for Ephraim, while Lyria has quickly become one of my favorite characters.

This story has many twists and turns and is equal parts heartbreaking and inspiring. There were many moments that left me with my mouth on the floor and left me speechless. Other parts made me laugh showing me that there can still be joy in the darkest of times.

Up next Lightbringer and I am so nervous for this next one.
