Make sure to read the first volume and the witching hour crossover first. This volume builds on what came before, and the scale of everything continues to grow. There’s great character work here, and I found myself rooting for characters I did t really care about before.

The bits involving Constantine and Swamp Thing really made this a must read for fans of those characters. For some reason, neither have their own series at the moment, and this really scratches the itch. Ram V, who just wrapped up an all time great Swamp Thing Run, cowrites the Swamp Thing focused annual, which is amazing, and promises more Swamp Thing stories to come. Excited for the next volume.

I want to care about this book so badly ... I love Constantine and Zatanna. But it's just so .... boring. I wish every story didn't have to be "The End of All Magic Everywhere." I really like JLD would benefit from some just really well-written, creepy supernatural mysteries. And I love you, Diana, but Wonder Woman doesn't need to be here. And knowing the next volume is part of the TERRIBLE Year of the Villain event from 2019 .... ugh.

I picked this up as I was looking for graphic novels to read. It was quite depressing and sad. Our heroes seem to be finding no solutions and bad things keep occurring.

Synopsis: The team thinks Man-Bat is in too deep with the Otherkind cases and he's stuck at headquarters, but he does manage to release Khalid Nassour from the vase he was trapped in. Meanwhile, Diana and Zatanna are on a mission to find Mordru, lord of chaos and Detective Chimp and Swamp Thing hang out at the Oblivion Bar. The Upside Down Man shows up at the bar and Detective Chimp opens a portal to Mrrya for everyone to escape to.

Nabu has gathered up all the other Lords of Order with new hosts and invades Mrrya. So basically here is Nabu's plan: he wants to power up the Tree of Wonder, which will draw the Otherkind there and they'll eat the magic, eventually starving out when they've devoured the tree. Essentially this would kill anything and everything with magic ties, but the Otherkind would be defeated.

Wonder Woman and Zatanna defeat the Lords of Order by using chaos magic given to them by Mordru. Then Diana used the Ruby of Life to heal whatever they broke in the process. Luthor persuades Circe that since the JL has a JLD then the Legion of Doom should have one as well. From there, we get a collection of stories about Dr. Fate, Constantine and the new Parliament of Flowers guardian. The Parliament of Flowers Guardian is a bust, though, and he gets consumed by Jason Woodrue.

Review: I just want anyone that reads this review to know that I hated writing that synopsis. This shit was confusing as fuck (I'm also very stoned, so that may be a factor). I broke it down as much as possible because frankly, most of the stuff went over my head, but I think I nailed the main things that went down.

My main issue with this book is the amount of dialogue and over explanation of concepts. It's the same issue I have with the Justice League book as a whole. I feel like I'm reading a really complicated novel and I don't always understand what the hell is going on or why or how. I suppose I just wasn't in the mood tonight to read a dense comic as well, but I liked it enough that I'm planning on continuing the series.

The characters and art are fabulous as usual. The art in particular caught my eye in this volume - the Lords of Order always looks so damn epic and cool. The Otherkind are still unsettling as hell to look at and some of the magic in this book looked gnarly. Mordru takes away Zatanna's nose and mouth at one point and it looks absolutely horrible.

I would love to get a Lords of Order miniseries or something - the artifics are fascinating. I liked that we got more of an explanation for Nabu's motivations because I know Dr. Fate can be a dick, but it seemed like he was going a bit far. However, I have to say I was happy with the explanation and it went along with his displeasure he has expressed about the state of magic and its users. It's a bleak plan, but one that would have probably worked.

Overall, a bit of a slog, but necessary to get to the next arc I suppose.

A really good installment. The annual story was good as well. It does raise some really important questions about power and magic as well as creation. Great fun. Nice and dark. If you like horror, you should enjoy this.
