While the preface does say it’s not a literary masterpiece and won’t have great plot, I think the pacing of this book was somewhat criminal. If it had been fleshed out better, and the character relationships had more chemistry it would’ve been a better read. If there's going to be no plot (which lots of good books don't have btw!) then at LEAST write the characters well - or even DECENTLY.

And by that I mean the first 25%(?) was about the characters growing up and a one-sided pen pal situation. I think the characters' personalities could've shined more if there was mutual writing or just more scenes from youth. The miscommunication was kind of chaotic, and the resolutions were honestly unhinged in an "this gives me the ick" way. The side characters' were certainly there just nothing important... besides Ora, who is just an archetype for delusional crazy girl who wants the MMC.

I think that all of the characters would be interesting if they had a chance to shine with some more interactions, build-up, tension that makes sense....., and healthy conflict. I'm just baffled at the entire thing really. And their ages... whew... "25" but make it mentally 16. The entire thing felt off.

Also it was personally too sexual for me (which is fine if the rest of the book held up lol), especially given the insta-love and lack of chemistry. It just made it not feel like genuine attraction (on top of the fact that I don't think we got almost any character description of the MMC besides "HE'S HUGE!!!"). I think if the author had sat for about five more minutes she would’ve been able to be a bit more creative with the work, and it would’ve been more immersive and interesting let alone tolerable.

I found this book through the author's Instagram reel advertising it, and I expected something sweet with some angst and morally gray, but it was just a weird (somewhat creepy) obsessive and flat read.

Do you love a MMC who will do absolutely unhinged things because he loves his mate, but is never ever mean to her and always worships the ground she walks on? Then this love story is for you. Is it deep? No. Is there much world building? No. Is it completely delightful even without those components? Absolutely.

Low/No angst, no cheating, Touch Her and you will literally die/mine/thats my wife, HEA

Summary Review:
This book is probably for someone who enjoys fantasy romance with a touch of darkness. It’s a quick read with a simplistic writing style and a relatively small cast of main characters for most of the book. There is explicit sexual scenes depicted on the page and some amputation/death.

More In-depth Review:
This book is nice for a reading slump. While I personally think the book was just okay, it was easy to read and had limited world building which helped me finish my first book in months.

However, the writing is very simple. The diction is elementary and the writing style is very tell not show. Most of the plot twists I was able to figure out at the beginning of the book. The beginning of the book was slow and drawn out. It lead me to believe there was going to be a big climactic point of conflict in the novel, but it never quite got there. I had a ton of anticipation, but most conflicts were trivial arguments that were resolved in a handful of pages. Even the final conflict of the novel was quickly resolved with practically no consequences.

This novel has dark elements, but the mmc didn’t really give off lethal. There was a lot of threatening to murder people and no actual murdering happening (from both the mmc and fmc). He gave off arrogant and petulant child that resource guards.

Based on the acknowledgments at the end of the book it does appear that it is the first in a series focusing on the world presented in the book. So I believe the world will be more fleshed out in those most likely.

Overall:
While this book isn’t ranked in my top notch novels. I don’t regret reading it. It was the perfect book to get me out of the reading slump that I was in. It was mostly easy to follow and had enough intrigue to keep me coming back to it. I do have complaints about the plot holes and writing style, so I most likely won’t complete this series. However, I am appreciative to this author for all the work and effort she put into the book.

If I can give a 10 I would.
Definitely a nice, light hearted, fast-paced, no crazy plot driven story. It was a nice palette cleanse after all the books I’ve read.

This book deserves two stars but girl I love a book that's self aware, sister said this is just for shit and giggles and ngl I did giggle.

The writing was... choppy at some points and I did wonder if the smut was worth putting myself thru this but the concept of the letters as communication and fallng in love with a stranger that's obsessed with you... baby you can't deny the material. Would I ever recommend this book? never but it was a read
