A pretty fun exploration of a pretty fun gimmick. I felt like I'd enjoy it better if there hadn't been the "Lucius" title tacked on and the events had been more of a surprise, but then we'd be talking about structural changes to the whole way the story is put together.

How does Lucius the Eternal's curse/gift work if he’s not killed by a person, but rather a thing? That’s the question asked by Ian St. Martin in this short story, an unusual and unexpectedly horrifying tale set relatively early on in Lucius’ eternal-ness.

Depicting both Lucius’ skill and increasingly broken psyche, and the reality of life for the sort of character we simply don’t normally see, this is a smart, thoughtful and deeply grim story.
