First of all it was very slow in the beginning, but I kept going because I had nothing else to read. Therefor I was reminded it is neither the pace or the page count which matters, it’s the content (cliché).

The book was filled with rich characters and beautiful stories. Based on a real history!!! So cool, this book might have made me want to become a historian. And I really want to visit the Chief Vann house if I ever go to Turtle Island.

Not my genre but will definitely read more of similar type. And I love that this was fiction based on  real stories, makes the history so much more emotionally deep and relatable.

It’s kind of embarrassing to write these reviews on here, but it’s the easiest place for me to store my thoughts so bear with me :D Btw read this 100% if you love dark mysteries and historical books! Overall not the best writing but personally this story stuck.

This is the ultimate book on reclaiming power and taking agency over your legacy and life. I also love the research that went into this. The plantation, the missionaries, slaves, and indigenous characters are based off of real people which I think is amazing.

I received this book as an advanced copy and really enjoyed it. I read a lot of historical fiction, but this is the first book I read about the Cherokee Nation and the plantations. I liked the authors use of the diary inserts to allow the main characters to revisit the past. Overall, a good read.

An interesting historical period and premise, but I wasn't impressed by the writing style or how the stories intertwined.

I really enjoyed this book and this dive into black, indigenous, and black indigenous histories. I was able to empathize and like all of the main characters and appreciate the growth of their relationships as the three women uncovered history together.

I’m realizing I enjoy books like this one that combine fiction, history, and a little bit of romance as characters learn about themselves through the journey to the past. Definitely hoping to read more books like this in the future and will be looking for another Tiya Miles book to read!
