Charismatic characters and their stories told against the backdrop of Willow Springs - a somewhat mythical place as the island belongs to neither SC or GA, with NYC serving as its own character. Dealing with love, loss, and beliefs - some things we don’t understand.

just masterful. the character work, prose, and atmosphere is infectious. such witty personality and dialogue. it's a bit slow-paced in the first half, but the care and craft that naylor puts into mama day and willow springs is wild and heartfelt. i thought the perspective shifts were so smooth and in sync with the narrative voice, and the way mama day's POV was present and active while cocoa and george's POVs were past-tense, journalistic and reflective blew my mind with how well it worked with their individual perspectives. cried at the end.

She’s more like a 3.5! She was a sweet book but was so draggy in parts that it was hard to get through. Very nice story that made you feel like you were right at home, but had parts that were kinda boring!

I would recommend but just be prepared for the slow pace! Very much not like anything I normally read, so that may have something to do with it too
