I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I really, really struggled with this book. From the start I found that it had some really odd moments and the way it talks about female characters really put me off at points. But, that being said, I had to finish it just to find out where it was going and what was actually happening.

Essentially we have our protagonist Evan, a prospector for several months of the year, and the woman he finds in the woods, Addie. Basically Evan finds Addie close to death in the woods and helps nurse her back to health, they then spend the rest of his prospecting time in his cabin/the woods together before it all turns sour before the end. Sounds great, bit of mystery and I was intrigued to see what happened.

Then, the thoughts of the main character get weird. The first point that I struggled with was only a few chapters in. Evan in sharing a sleeping bag with Addie to keep her warm as she probably has hypothermia, a perfectly normal thing for this kind of situation. But, Addie is yet to wake up, she's been unconscious the entire time so far and when Evan wakes up and finds his hand on her breast (when has this ever happened in real life?!) he first marvels at the size, and the comfort it brings him, before then deciding to remove it. Yes, that's right, he wakes up to discover he's fondling this strange woman in their sleep and doesn't immediately stop touching her. Sadly it gets stranger from there, he spends A LOT of time worrying she'll think he's attacking her/being inappropriate, every one of his past relationships have failed because they've chose their career over him, Addie speaks of teen heartthrobs while he talks of philosophy.... I could go on.

The story has an interesting premise but the way women are spoken about just weirded me out. I was hoping it'd be a plot device and maybe he'd turn out to be the bad guy in the end, so I kept reading in the hope of this. However I was sorely disappointed. Thankfully it's a quick read but I just couldn't get over what I've talked about above!
