DNF at 66 pages.

I don’t really vibe with the author’s style of writing. She has this way of being super blunt and direct with all the plot / backstory details that just makes my head spin. This book is chaos and not in a good way. I love when YA delves into topics and when the FMC internalizes a lot - but this FMC just casually mentions things and doesn’t care one way or the other about most of it. It feels disingenuous?

And the banter is really boring - it’s very juvenile for me. The whole plot is so chaotic and doesn’t make much sense either. I kinda hope she doesn’t make it into her film program. 😂 But I don’t care enough to find out.

first rating kinda nervous... but on a real note I went into reading this thinking it was going to be sappy romance but it a good way, but to my surprise it was more story oriented than romance if you get what I'm putting down? It disappointed me cause I thought we were gonna get a "love hard" (corny xmas romance movie from netflix) type book and I was left with a kinda lengthy read with only romance nearing the end leaving me with an empty feeling. my romance needs in this book were like not met but if you like cinematography and drama and I GUESS a little friends to frienemies to lovers then this is the book for you, but unfortunately, it wasn't for me, hope you like it better than me!

I enjoyed reading this YA contemporary although it wasn't truly a standout or that memorable.

I found it ironic that Saine was somehow relatable yet unlikeable and wasn't someone I would like to root for. I also wish I could've seen more from her history with Holden. Much of the conflict in this book could've been avoided or easily resolved if the characters talked to each other though I can understand why they didn't, because teenagers.

If you're up for some dry and sarcastic banters and a YA take on childhood friends to enemies to lovers trope, then this may be for you.

Thank you so much to HarperCollins Children's Books, HarperTeen, NetGalley and the author for my early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Saine is a character I would have liked to have shaken some sense into.
