The second book in the series is as good as the first one. I liked the friendships she formed with her maids, the people from Coyolles and the soldiers. It also progresses the story, seeing as Rishe starts to make a lot of connections with other people.

"please pretend we're a couple" "....what do you mean pretend?"

I'm so glad I decided to go back and read these books even though the anime covered the broad strokes. They're just as fun as the later books and you get a much better idea of Arnold as a person versus an archetype.

Not as good as the first book in my opinion, but Rishe is still being a brainy girlboss and I love that for her. Like yes girl, stop that war from happening, slayyy.
