Excellent beginning of the spin-off series - gripping, rich in tension, romance and humour (Carwyn can't wthout humour, can he?)

So good! Slow burn. Recommended.

Spoiler Alert and TW: The h copes with a history of 2 year sexual abuse and sexual trauma as a child and it can be difficult to read. Nothing is described thankfully, but the h has issues as an adult due to it. Drug use and depression are additional subject matters explored. "Love" of self and others being a cathartic and healing after trauma and loss bring a great ending thus far.

I wanted to like this a lot more. I think it was a mistake to tether this so tightly to the regular series, because the H/H had almost no interaction together.

I'm disappointed. I really love the hero (he's a secondary character in the main series) and I wanted more.

Opening sentence.

He could see the flames licking at the houses, and hear the shouts of the humans as they ran, some rushing to safety, others attempting to drown the fire that had already turned the main house to rubble.

Carwyn is my favorite I don't care that he is a priest. 1000 years of Service to the church is enough. After losing his son to Lorenzo he has come back to be with his Family and take over as best as he can.

Dublin, Ireland

Aunt Sinéad saves Brigid from a m and monster. It is not the vampires that one needs to worry about. She is 8 years old. Ioan is the big brother and protector that she never had.

Life changes and she has to learn to pick up the pieces. While at college she suffers from anxiety so Brigid starts to take drugs to help herself cope.

After Ioan's death Brigid just wants to forget so after being clean she resorts to drugs. Deidre can't take the loss of Brigid so shortly after Ioan's death. Deidre turns Brigid without consent. A fire Vampire is born.

The water vampire Murphy runs Dublin and the drug problem is getting worse although the human drugs aren't on the market anymore there is a new drug. This ties in with what happened with B and Gio and Lorenzo.

Carwyn realises that he is starting to have feelings for Brigid. His courting skills are a bit rusty. The banter between Carwyn and Brigid is a hoot.

Five reasons to fall in love with me.

1. My Hawiian shirt collection.
2. I'm extremely rich, particularly for a priest.
3. My good Looks are obvious
4. A thousand years that is a lot to make up for.
5. And I'm back. The last Thing that I will is just this: I love you.

Once again a lovely read, with the right amount of intrigue, humor, excitement and chemistry. Well done Ms. Hunter.

Daaamn this was a slow burn.

I’ve been waiting for this book since Carwyn was first introduced in the Elemental Mysteries series and the two main characters took their sweet bloody time admitting they had feelings for each other. I’m not one for insta-love but this was sweet torture.

It was intriguing reading Carwyn’s POV of scenes and timelines from the prequel series. It brought some new light to that storyline as well as creating several “ah-ha!” moments in this book.

All in all, I may have slightly over-hyped this book for myself but it was still a damn good read.

Managing to pull a rescue-the-lady scenario without being awful about it seems to be something most authors I've read in romance just cannot pull off. This, however, worked really well, twice - and seriously, agency matters like crazy. In part because the rescue wasn't the focus either time, but also because the characters weren't, y'know, rescue-focused.

I did not *like* the first half of the book, per se, but the payoff was pretty darn good, and it fit very well with the other series this continues from, without seeming cobbled together.

I absolutely love this world Elizabeth Hunter created! However best to read the Elemental Mysteries prior to reading this is one.

Ma'am...Ma'am...I'm going to have to ask you to write about this world FOREVER!!!

Finally Carwyn has his story in this world. Who hasn't been waiting for this? This book does start (timewise) before the first book in this world and covers time thru the 4th-ish book.

Carwyn is our priest, best guy friend and such a character. Reading thru this book as he goes thru some very personal struggles and triumphs, was so so so good. He is one of my favorites in this world and this did not disappoint.

I see you Ms Hunter...I'm so glad I have purchased every single book and novella in this world.
