You gotta be a real sicko to come up with some of the stuff that Jack Ketchum and Stephen King come up with.

I went into this novel knowing absolutely nothing about it. I knew it was in the horror genre and had been recommended for my Halloween TBR. It did not disappoint that it was terrifically gruesome. It was a page turner such that I forgot I was reading. Even if you know how it’s going to end or you think you do, you will still be glued to the pages. What makes the story less terrifying is the fact that the subject matter and set up is so entirely far-fetched, (says the girl who was reared on B-movie chainsaw massacres.)

dnf bc this was ableist and classist and fatphobic as fuck. like idk the “it’s a product of its time” excuse only goes so far. why read this when u could watch texas chainsaw which is still problematic but 100x better. also i love shitty horror but this was just terribly written on top of everything else

Character POV switches frequently from one paragraph to the next. There’s already several characters this early in, and keeping up with who is who is too much.

she downloaded the book on her kindle. she started reading the book. she saw the book was narrated like this but insisted on keep reading it for the gore. the gore wasn't even that good in the end. she gave the book one star.

4.5 stars ~ a nasty and gruesome tale of survival. While the descriptions can be disgusting and overwhelming, I really enjoyed this extreme horror. It really hits at that deep fear of being alone in the woods and makes you wonder if you have it in you to fight to survive, and if you do does that even matter?

This is gritty, dark, and downright crazy at some points, but frankly, that's what I look for in a Jack Ketchum book! This did not dissapoint.

A few friends meet up to hang out in a cabin, they are attacked by wild children, women, and a couple of men who are "hunting". It's definitely dark and twisty along the way, and certainly much more to it than that generalized synopsis that doesn't even come close to explaining it all.

If you like that kind of read, definitely check this one out. I will certainly be reading more Jack Ketchum, he's that kind of horror author I certainly enjoy.
