A great ending to the Imbalance storyline. I can't wait to see what comes next in the Avatar verse. I thought it was really cool to be able to read about the beginnings of Republic City and it's backstory. It really starts to tie together Korra and Aangs histories and fill in those missing gaps that exist in their timelines.

  1. Taking Away Someone's Bending Taste So Good When U Ain’t Got A Bitch In Ya Ear Telling You It’s Nasty. Katara annoyed me so much in this one. And I'm annoyed at myself for being annoyed, because I'm forever on the KDL, especially for when people call her annoying. So, this installment has made me a hypocrite. However, her stance is just ridiculous.
I just don't understand why/how she can't see that taking away Liling's bending wouldn't be a bad thing. The woman is using her bending to, IN HER OWN WORDS, 'exploit the weak'. She has used it for bad and will continue to do so. And her come Katara talking about bending is such an important part of her and other people's identity and therefore Aang shouldn't take it away. KATARA, YOU USED YOUR BENDING TO SAVE THE WORLD!! LILING IS USING HER BENDING FOR SUBJUGATION AND CRIMINAL ACTS!! HOW IS IT THE SAME? Then, you have Aang listening to her shit reasoning and says, "Taking away her bending wouldn't have fixed anything. It wasn't her bending that was the problem; it was her bigotry." Yes, her bigotry is the problem, but she has made it quite clear, she will not change, so when she has to be reintegrated into society, what are you gonna do then? She used her bending to punish people for existing and you're trying to convince ME that it's not a good idea to take it away? And I should make it clear that though I believe she should no longer have her bending, I don't think it's the only way. I just don't appreciate the book trying to tell me it's nonsencial or immoral. Then, after it all, Katara has the nerve to ask Aang what made him choose not to take away Liling's bending like she hadn't been waxing poetic every time he so much as brought it up!! Like be so for real.
  2. Liling's prejudice also felt so dumb to me. But prejudice overall is stupid so I guess it's realistic. A bender thinking she's better than a non-bender, that makes sense. The catalyst for this way of thinking, less so. Even Ru tells her it's dumb as hell. But I get how traumatic an experience as hers could've been, but I have little sympathy for bigots so that's as much as I can give.
  3. I was underwelmed by the fight sequence, which then gave way about 3 rushed scenes to finish up the story. I think the 80 pages weren't used most efficiently, is all.

alright, i'll bump this one a star too because we got to see Aang's character development and internal thinking come out a lot more and it just seemed to make more sense in terms of closing the gap between ATLA and TLK - happy i've read a ton of these comics
