Oof. This book should come with a warning - started reading in the late afternoon, and had to force myself to stop reading around the 12-1am hour (then proceeded to wake up early and finish the book). Queen Move completely sucked me in and at the end, spat me out in an overwhelmed, emotional mess.
This book was incredible. I'm still attempting to recover from the hangover this book gave me, but even reading other books, this one is still in the back of my mind. Mostly, I think it has to do with how utterly real Kimba and Ezra felt to me. They were human. A lot of their reactions were things that, had I been in that situation, I know I would've felt, and because of that I just really connect to the characters.
Separately, they 're both amazing. Kimba is kick ass and so confident (but also her confidence was something she worked for, not just something she already possessed and I loved that aspect even more). She's so ambitious and in this book as to learn how to prioritize dreams and take a moment to consider what her future will look like outside of her career. And Ezra! Ah the PERFECT book boyfriend. I can't remember the exact line but it was something along the lines of he didn't care what Kimba looked like, he was in love with her soul and oh my god, I was turned to mush and utterly convinced that no man will ever measure up to Ezra after that.
This is a best-friends-to-lovers and second-chance-romance (my literal favorite romance tropes) and when Kimba and Ezra were together on screen I was so in love with both of them. Their friendship was so evident and their sexual chemistry was certainly off the charts. It was so clear to me that they were soulmates throughout the book and through all the trials and tribulations they encounter through their whole lives, made their fight for each other that much sweeter and satisfying.
I’m trying to educate myself, step out of the comfort zone, constantly reading about people who only look like me (white). I don’t think I’m close-minded, but I certainly want to crack the door open more. Kennedy Ryan just writes so many beautiful, in-depth POC character and karate kicks my door wide open. Her books are romance first and foremost, but there’s so many layers of culture that she just expertly weaves into the story line. I always come away from her books with a teachable moment and Queen Move is no different.
The other thing I loved about this book was the reminder that love is not tidy. We’re all human - humans are messy and so is our love. It’s not neat, tidy and wrapped in a perfect bow. There are challenges and putting in the effort to be with your other half and
And major props to anyone who can get me to cry over the happy parts. In general, if a book brings me to tears then it’s a 5 star read. Usually, it’s over a tragic event and I’m so connected to the characters that it feel like a death that’s happened in my own reality. In the case of Queen Move, I was still so connected to the characters but in those last few chapters, I was just so overwhelmed by the love between Kimba and Ezra, that I did start to cry, and for me, that’s a rarity.
I could not recommend this book enough. It was so thought provoking and filled with such love. Kennedy Ryan writes magic and this book is no exception. Make sure you read this one.

I do not give books in the romance genre five stars often, but I honestly did not have any complaints about this book. She hit it out of the park.

3.5 ⭐️ not terrible, i just wish i could have seen what made Kimba and Ezra’s relationship as special as they thought it was. I get having old feelings but like it felt a little unrealistic. Either way it was well written and honestly i could have done with less sex scenes
