8.5/10 This one hits particularly close to home, especially since it sheds light to the stark contrast of being Black at Vassar College and being Black in the city of Poughkeepsie (just 14 miles from home). There is a realness to relation to Blackness and body and the multitude of ways addiction and perception can show up and harm. This book is feels authentic, eye-opening, and at times, Heavy.

This book was so good. While I do note have a lot of personal experience with institutional racism I do struggle with eating and my weight and the way it is written about makes me feel so seen. The writing is beautiful. The sharing is shockingly personal. Such a raw and personal portrait of the human experience.
