I was expecting a much more somber tone to this book but it wasn't and it was a light hearted then I expected. Rosemary and Logan were best friends turned enemies and goes on a road trip to Maine as a dying wish for their mentor, Joe. I love the VW van and the cute dog in the story. I wasnt really buying the romance between Logan and Rosemary with how opposite they were and Rosemary was beyond rigid with her plans. I was really vested in Joe's story and wanted more of it. The narrators did a good job with both characters.

The more romance I read the pickier I get and this one just has some tropes I'm tired of reading about. The "Elton fucking John" type of exclamations drive me kind of crazy- and the very stereotypical "high strung anxious control freak with little sense of humor" and "laid back messy jokester with repressed emotions who needs to get their life together" type of MCs don't do it for me anymore. I feel like I've read 15 books with those exact characters. And I know your characters need to have flaws in order to grow, but it's hard for me to connect with them when they aren't even a little bit likable at the beginning :///
The premise is interesting and new, and I love an exploration of grief as a theme, the rest just isn't for me

This book is so full of messy emotions. It was a tough read, but also a beautiful read.

Why I decided to pick up a book about loss and grief and saying goodbye, while I am actively still grieving....well I can never really know why my mood reading does what it does. But I can say I did cry a lot during this book. Sometimes happy tears! And it felt good because as I learned in this book, it is good to feel it all, rather than repress and act uninterested, even when it hurts so much. I love a good roadtrip book, so even though this was a dying wish, last trip, I enjoyed the journey and honestly have added a few places to my future travel plans.  The author writes some seriously poignant scenes and the emotions were so vibrant and really pull at you.  I loved all the characters (every single one and especially the side characters who brought much needed smiles and laughs).  No spoilers but the way this book talks about becoming your true self and that even if you don't feel okay, your mind is not your enemy, was really beautiful.

Highly recommend the audiobook and both narrators do a fabulous job bringing these characters and their growth and emotions off the page!

In some ways this felt like it had the pieces but it just didn't come together. I hated the "megan fucking rapinoe" exclamations and didn't particularly like any of the characters. It was predictable in a way that didn't make me interested in continuing to read (if I wasn't sick I would have DNFd)...the central conflict was just the same over and over across the book.
