4.5 stars!! and i like this one better than the first book.
there is nothing else i could say that the journey picks up in galaxies that live inside us. ever heard the notion that we are made of stars? nah, scratch that, we are made of galaxies. i choose to believe this since the book is so good at persuading me, lol.
not a full 5 stars since i got bummed with meg sudden bursts. girl, gotta keep your mind sharp and your action sharper means do something more at the moment than just sulking.
but hey, don't mistake it, i adore meg murry half of the time because she tries harder to love harder.
and there is a cherubim in this story, and HE/SHE KNOWS EVERY NAME OF THE STARS. or so he/she said. tease.

I like this more than A Wrinkle in Time, but that's because I understand that these books are just propaganda - for what I can't say because I was confused 70% of the time - and was able to adjust my expectations accordingly.
The interweaving of science and fantasy was interesting. There's a very thin line between the two and L'engle almost seems to be making the case that there isn't any difference at all, merely a variance of perspective on the same continuum. However, given how long ago this book came out I will say that I feel we have come very far in terms of our understanding of medicine so some to a lot of what is discussed on this book has to be out of date. I know very little about anything scientifically based but I still felt like things were off.
Meg was infuriating. She spent most of the book in near hysterics purely so in her histrionics she would be so inconsolable the other characters would have to repeat the same concepts over and over meaning L'Engle could lay her messaging on super thick. This was to the detriment of Meg as a character because it made me question any intelligence this girl was purported to have since from my point of view she was unable to put together simple thought. It also made her super annoying because rather than use her brain for two seconds she was content to cry and wail instead. As a vessel for L'Engle's dogma she functioned perfectly.
Charles Wallace was out of commission this book due to circumstances. I found him far more charming in small doses. Calvin seemed like an afterthought though I do enjoy the casual way their intimacy is described. There is never any question of their care for one another and I appreciate how there is never any drama between them only external forces impacting them. It's nice to have two teens so quietly committed and united without sappy melodrama.
Even though I liked it more I can't give it more than 2 stars on that alone as objectively I feel it's the same as AWiT, the only real change is my own viewpoint which isn't enough to shift a rating in this case.
