“The nature of the world is that when we create something, we often destroy something else in the process.”

Holy moly, that ending... I have to digest that first.

Without giving too much away, I liked this one much more than the second book! I love the magic system of this series and the third book delved into that so much more. It's amazing to see that Sanderson created a world that is so well thought-out and elaborate. I really feel like he's been planning the entire plot from the very beginning. All the pieces finally come together perfectly and reading that was such a satisfying experience. And the antagonist of this series is so intriguing and original. I absolutely adore stories with unusual antagnoists, such as
Spoiler a power or force rather than an actual person.

However, while this last installment was a lot more action-packed than its predecessors, I still think the pacing was a little bit slow at times. And even though I do like several of the characters (TenSoon, most of all, but also Elend, Vin, Sazed, Spook - okay I like pretty much all of the protagonists), I didn't get to know any of them well enough to feel truly passionate about any of them. I don't think that was Sanderson's attempt anyway, as this feels like it's a very plot-focused series, but I just need to simp for at least one character in a story in order to really love it. And some character, it seemed, were just forgotten halfway through the book. What happened to Cett, for example?

All in all, this is a very original and imaginative series and I definitely get why people say this is a must-read for fans of high-fantasy. I, for one, am very glad that I've finally picked it up and will recommend it to anyone who wants to dive into an epic fantasy saga with a deliciously well thought-out magic system.

This series was actually pretty well done! The characters were more original than some in the genre, and the world system was complex and well thought out. Sure, there were some leaps of logic and a few, “Hm, really?” moments, but considering the ambition involved, I’m very willing to let them slide. This author writes fight scenes better than any others I’ve read! I’ll definitely be reading more of his work.
p.s. SOOOOooOooOo happy to see an actual TRILOGY, and not a 15-book series with no end in sight! How refreshing!
