Fun, brainless read. Perfect vacation read.

This was definitely a bit young for me, so that might be why I have it only two stars. However, I do still feel that I would have had the same problems with it even if it had been directed more at my target age group. While there was action, it seemed almost mindless. Characters came and went quickly with little time for me to grow attached to them. Now that I read other people's reviews, I see that Drizzt is a character from R. A. Salvatore's other work. I guess this explains why I found him the most compelling. I wasn't even attached to the narrator, especially since he seemed to drift through life rather than doing much of anything. I suppose the big reveal at the end about the stone explains some of that, but I didn't even really care about that. Still, if you're looking for a quick fantasy read that doesn't require much thinking, this is the book for you.

Maybe I would have liked this better if I was more familiar with R.A. Salvatore and Dritzz. OH well.

Technically a young adult book, this first installment in a trilogy was okay. It jumps around in time a bit more often than struck me as necessary, but it ends so abruptly that I'll have to wait and see where the rest of the series goes.
