Loved this book. Just finished it with tears running down my cheeks. It's super funny in parts and yet tender. I want to read it to my 9-year-old son but think it's more appropriate for kids who are 12+.

This book has such wonderful references to books and movies.

And it's a beautiful ode to teachers who matter to students, who truly care about the kids they teach.

Loved this, was very moved by the story. For readers who love a story that unfolds with multiple narrators, this is a must read. Three sixth grade students work to have the perfect last day of school for their teacher, Ms. Bixby, when she has to leave them due to pancreatic cancer. Lots of humor but also many tender moments.

An exceptionally moving book stuffed with likeable characters. My only complaint is that the structure drove me nuts. The A-plot is actually quite short. To enrich it, though, it takes a break every few pages for flashbacks. Like, so many flashbacks. So, so many flashbacks. They contribute to the emotional impact of the whole and are excellent in their own right, but the pacing can be maddening at times.

I really enjoyed this book. It's about three friends that do everything they can to make their teacher's "last day" in town before she is transferred for cancer treatment, memorable. It's sweet and touching and incredibly funny. Kenny said he thinks younger kids might not like it, but I think that middle schoolers would eat this up. The humor is totally there with middle school kids. It even references some things that kids are really into right now (AKA FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S!!!). I think this could be a really good read aloud in a middle school classroom. The only thing that would give me pause is the LGBT undertones, which stinks. But kids might not even notice those at all.

Both sad and funny, this moving realistic novel concerns three boys on a quest to bring a farewell party to their sick teacher who missed their last day of school. Read my full review here.

Wonderful book, a real tearjerker but has funny and sweet parts too. One of my favorites from 2019
