Coming in at about 5,200 words, this Overwatch short story is dedicated to filling in some blanks regarding Ana's reemergence from her "presumed dead" status. Her vigilante cover is blown when she recognizes Soldier 76 and jumps in to aid him from an attack by Reaper... who she struggles with and recognizes as her old comrade Gabriel just before he escapes her.

In the aftermath, she tends to a severely wounded Soldier who, in Old Man Logan style, is facing the decline of his regenerative abilities. Amid his recovery they discuss some of their shared history, and Soldier attempts to convince Ana to join him in destroying Talon. She declines at first, concerned over leaving Cairo without a defender. Soldier eventually agrees to aiding her first in bringing down Hakim.

For a bit of video game lore, this is some fairly high-quality material. The story is told in 3rd-person omniscient point-of-view, though it doesn't dive too deeply into either Ana or Soldier's psyche. Included art is variable, sometimes taking up whole pages, and remaining true to the angular, cell-shaded look of the more Westernized style we often see attached to the game's comics.

On the downside... it felt like the story built up tension to a big and well-planed battle with Hakim, only to resolve in a quick and simple summary. I'm sure the events are covered in one of the comics, but it was still an anticlimactic way to end and otherwise well-detailed piece.

Can't wait to get my hands on the Bastet skin. :)

Nothing too novel here, but the short story does add in more detail to the now well-known tale.

Blizzard and Overwatch team.... WE NEED MORE OF THIS, PLEASE!!!! So much backstory was brought to light in this that the whole fanbase needed! I wait with baited breath for some Mercy backstory!

I read this when the event came out during the game. I loved it because it was more writing and less animation. The writing was very well done. My only complaint was that it wasn't longer. It's a way of introducing character lore since the current state of Overwatch is that it is just a PVP (Player versus Player) game with little lore unless it is introduced in this manner or 'shorts.'

Best lore reveal Overwatch has gotten in ages. I love the direction Ana and Jack are going in. I hope this is a sign of more short stories to come!
