A fast-paced potboiler about America's favorite past time: serial killers.

Compelling and intense.

I gave this book a 5/5 rating due to how intense the novel was. The main characters complimented each other even though they conflicted in the beginning, while the antagonist was intriguing and downright evil. Thoroughly enjoyed this novel.

First... how great is that cover.

Secondly... I give this book 5 stars.

The Madonna Murderer has resurfaced (although we don't know why) and Ivy Dunlap is called back into the scene. She is a criminal profiler, and this one hits close to home. As she was one of his victims. 16 years ago. The MM targets single mothers (who he deems as whore) and baby boys. She is partnered with Max Irving, homicide detective with a teenage adopted son. I am SO glad that there wasn't a romantic sideline to this story between the two, sure the novel hinted at it a bit, but it was not the main focus.

The pace was fast, and the character development was very well written. You felt a connection with every person, even those people who only had 3 pages dedicated to them. I know this may sound weird, but my favourite character was the serial killer. I enjoyed how Frasier characterized him and got into his past a little into why he possibly went to this type of lifestyle, definite mother issues.

It was a great read that kept me turning the pages long into the night, which is a huge plus for any thriller type book. I just wanted to know how it would end! Sure it was predictable at times, but also not at all. (How's that for a succinct review?)

Go read this book if you like crime thrillers!

Very intense and creepy. Bad guy is messed up, as are most bad guys. Main characters are relatable. The story kept a fast pace. I found it was a hard book to put down.

5 star crime novel. I've read her Elise Sandburg series as well but it doesn't stand up to this novel at all. I'm really sad that there doesn't seem to be any other novels to accompany this one.

A little bit "Silence of the Lambs" but pretty interesting. I would have loved to see a romance between Max and Ivy. The author teases her readers but the story remained suspenseful.

I must have missed something with all of the 5 and 4 star reviews --- this one was OK. The premise was a good one, but I didn't love the writing itself and found myself skipping through the extra narrative that didn't add anything to the plot. On the plus side, this is a pretty quick read.

I was totally disturbed by this story upon finishing it. Fast moving, although somewhat predictable, it was very true to life. Serial Killers are not to be joked about. Would like to see if the author takes the story of Ivy further.
