This book unfortunately is a victim of false advertising. While the stories from the author are entertaining and raunchy, I was hoping for more pop culture analysis about all things tacky!

I had high hopes for this book but it didn't live up. As a reader I really enjoy essays and critique of  culture. However, this didn't really feel like that after the first few chapters. It felt a little bit more like reading someone's diary but not in a fun way. I applaud Rax for being so open and the moments when she did juxtapose culture with her experiences were well done - but too much of the box wasn't that.

Ugggghhhhh
Y’all, I was *really* looking forward to this one. I was so excited to read a book of essays about much of the culture that I grew up within and loved. Hello the table of contents boasts essays about degrassi, hot topic, americas next top model, jersey shore & Bath & body works!! I was thrilled to read an essay collection that appeared to discuss the exact culture I was raised in! But honestly, it felt like this collection was more about Rax’s sexual exploits than it was about the culture. Either this book needed to be marketed differently or edited more. It was exhausting for each chapter to come back to who she was sleeping with (significantly older man, someone else’s husband/boyfriend, shitty dude after shitty dude), and frankly, it became repetitive & boring. I was so ready to love this one!

not BAD, but wildly misrepresented by the uh. everything about it. this is a personal essay collection, which is not a bad thing to be but not what I thought I was signing up for.
