This book unfortunately is a victim of false advertising. While the stories from the author are entertaining and raunchy, I was hoping for more pop culture analysis about all things tacky!

An ode to the "tackiest" things in our modern culture, and the ways they interacted with King's life in one way or another, what's not to like? As someone who loves tacky things unabashedly, I was really excited to read this one. I came in with minor expectations that it would be more of a rumination on tackiness as a whole rather than personal essays relating to the tacky subject at hand, but wasn't displeased when I realized what the book actually was. I never thought I'd be reading about Jersey Shore and crying while remembering my dad his own unique "bad taste" in things that had no intersection with the Jersey Shore.

I had high hopes for this book but it didn't live up. As a reader I really enjoy essays and critique of  culture. However, this didn't really feel like that after the first few chapters. It felt a little bit more like reading someone's diary but not in a fun way. I applaud Rax for being so open and the moments when she did juxtapose culture with her experiences were well done - but too much of the box wasn't that.
