First, I love how quick a CoHo flies. This is one I enjoyed aspects and some I didn’t, so hitting middle ground for a 3 on the CoHo scale.

There were two main things that I had a hard time with for this: (1) lack of communication that led to assumptions and preventable situations. (2) how much time is spent inside the characters’ heads, narrating every single thought and assumption.

At face value, it is understandable that the communication is broken between a teen and her young mom especially under the circumstances of sudden and unexpected grief.

It did make me sad how Miller was trampled on throughout and just kept taking hits from Clara. He’s a child who has suffered his own moments of grief with one looming ahead. That saying “just because it looks like someone can carry something well, doesn’t mean it isn’t heavy” was so strong here.

I really liked Jonah and his character development.

Morgan and Chris had Clara when they were 17 and got married shortly after. Chris pursued a career and Morgan was a SAH. Morgan’s sister Jenny was similar to Chris and was Clara’s best friend.

On the morning of Morgan’s birthday, she gets a call that Chris and Jenny had been in a fatal wreck, revealing that they had been having an affair.

Clara blames herself because she was texting Jenny. She has a difficult time processing her grief and takes it out on her mom and acts out in ways that would upset her mother.

Side note: I really didn’t care for the emphasis of how great Clara is at acting and Morgan isn’t at lying.

As always Colleen did an amazing job pulling at my heart strings. I didn't cry until the end though but it was a happy moment that made me cry. I also think that it has the potential for a second book. I feel like a second book with the guys POV could be done. I cant wait to see what she comes up with next. ❤

If you read enough of CoHo books they all start to bland together. Cheating, something about brother/sister partner, some kind of tragedy anything but romance. I give her this she can write compelling but end product...let's move on.

"Those words, coupled with that look in her eyes - it all shatters me. It feels like my soul has been stomped on. But somehow, even beneath all the pain, I understand."

"Doing something like this was a knife to my heart.
But (...) ? That's an obliteration to my soul."

I really liked this book! It was fun to see a reference to the band Sounds of Cedar which was the band in Colleen’s book Maybe Someday.

@Nilufer Ozmekik--I love your redo of the cover! Loving You--Could be used for a sequel maybe?!?!?! :-)

I listened to this as an audiobook and I really enjoyed the narration
Clara was the most annoying character I’ve ever read about though
