A super, angsty slow burn between two best friends.

Did you ever wonder what it would be like to fall in love with not only your best friend, but the best friend that is so interwoven into the fabric of your lives that your parents are best friends, your friendship circle consists of each others friends, that everywhere you turn there is another reminder that if you take that leap and allow your heart to fall and it doesn't work, there is no escape from the heartache? Yeah...that is the very precipice that Aaron Bennet and Poppy Ford stand upon.

Broken Ties is full of angst. A back and forth that if I was a teen, I'm not sure my own heart would have survived.  Aaron and Poppy grew up together, their parents are best friends, so these two have literally been side by side and formed their own deep friendship. It is only as they reached their teenage years, as the added hormones and body changes arose that feelings started to change, but neither really said or did anything until their senior year. It's a preverbal straw breaking Poppy's back that finally springs her into action and she decides that she is no longer going to wait on the sidelines for Aaron to notice her as more than just a friend as her senior year passed her by.

Poppy decides to go out with another boy who has shown interest in her. Finally deciding she's had enough of waiting around for the one boy she's ever loved to take notice of her. Eli is nice, sweet, funny, everything she could want, except at the end of the day he's not Aaron. Doing her best to make the most of her last year in high school she's determined to enjoy it, even if Aaron drives her crazy with his whiplash.

Does he take notice? Yes and no. He's always noticed her, but remember my first paragraph. He has a really hard time with separating Poppy the girl he grew up with from the girl he is in love with. Aaron is a good kid and he really wants to do what is right, but sometimes the right thing is more of a detriment to his greater good. Aaron's senior year is not going like he expected and I love this side of the story that shows even with the best parents, decent grades, the right extra curriculars, and doing all of the right things that even what looks perfect on paper, well...sometimes not everything is actually perfect. L.A. Cotton never fails to bring a very real aspect to every story and this part of Aaron's life is very relatable.

Lastly, it's hard not to mention the moments on page with Jason Ford, Poppy's dad, as he definitely has a special bond with his baby girl. Practically every time he was in the story I was weeping.  As a coach and father, Jason always has the best intentions of those around him whether he was with his daughter or doling out advice for Aaron. Every moment he popped up really made me miss my dad something fierce. That's a rare treat and I appreciate Cotton for bringing him to life.

Broken Ties is another wonderful addition to the second generation of Rixon High and I can't wait to see what comes next.

Oh Aaron, you sweet darling boy.
It was inevitable that you and Poppy would cross that line, but it was admirable to see you try to resist.

Gah! I don't know what it is about Mrs Cotton's books, but they always hit me right in the feels.
Perhaps it's the teenage angst, the feelings that remind me of my earlier years, or the pain that simply bleeds from the pages. Whatever it is, I love it. I crave it AND I NEED MORE of it.
Her words are addicting and try as I might I can never seem to put the books down.

The way both Poppy and Aaron tried to navigate their changing relationship was not always nice, definitely not easy, and certainly not painless. My heart hurt for Poppy on more than one occasion.

The payoff was worth it.
It was the most beautiful, possibly the most honest, raw and passionate moment I think I have ever read.

But beyond that, the way this group of friends continues to entertain me and surprise me is just the little thrill I need in my day.

NOW...
I am DYING to get Sof's story now.
I have so many questions about that situation.

Best friends since they can remember, always there for each other, never having secrets from each other, makes a bond that seems unbreakable, yet when feelings turn to more will it ruin this bond or make it stronger? Aaron and Poppy have this connection and she has been in love wit him for a very long time, but Aaron can never see it or he avoids it because of his fear that it would all be ruined. Aaron knows how Poppy feels but with the weight of his future on the line his senior year he needs to stay focused, keep the peace, and work even more for his goal so keeping Poppy firmly as his best friend is the only option. Poppy is tired of fighting for the love she has for Aaron and wants to finally move on only if she could convince her heart to do that. This book made me so emotional because the hurt that Poppy felt each time Aaron rejected her or she saw him with Zara was so real I felt I was going through it with her. Aaron and the way he feels he isn’t good enough made my heart hurt because all he wanted was to play football in college yet the goal always seemed the fall out of reach. The pain of watching these two dance around their feelings for each other gripped me so when they finally see what is in front of them made me so happy. Poppy and Aaron has craved a place in my heart to be one of my favorites from this series.

O MY GOSH!!! I have been dying for Poppy and Aaron’s story since Lily’s book, and finally, FINALLY, we get their story and it is magical!! It has everything we love, a slow burn, friends to lovers, angsty drama filled romance involving our favorite Rixon Raiders!!

Poppy has always been one of my favorite characters in the second generation. She’s so strong and self assured in other books, but when we see her side of things, we see how insecure she is. She always stays true to herself, which I loved that about her.
So many times in this book, I wanted someone to punch Aaron in the face. Any time he said he was going this for Poppy, I wanted to be like “no dude, your doing this for yourself”. Boys are dumb. But poor Aaron, his dream was college football, and I think realizing that he wasn’t going to fulfill his dream, that was a slap. By the end though, I think he finally had his priorities straight.

I love going back to our favorite school, and seeing our Rixon raiders we love so much.
This book also had a lot more mentions and cameos with our past favorites (Poppy and Aaron are the new fav). Definitely saw a lot of a happy Ezra and Leigh, yay!

And can I just say, Sofia (insert sad face). I need to know what is happening there!! I cannot wait for Missed Notes!

Cheers to another great story from Rixon!!

Broken Ties by @authorlacotton | Releases May 19th! ♾/5

Words cannot describe how much I love this book and this series. I’ve been obsessed with these families since reading Rixon Raiders and L.A Cotton never disappoints. L.A Cotton is the queennnn of tortured hero’s, sports romance and deeply emotional reads, no one can change my mind. Broken Ties follows Aaron and Poppy who have been best friends since childhood. They dance around their feelings their entire lives but it’s finally senior year and they’re tired of it. When I tell you IM OBSESSED I mean like I can’t stop thinking about these two ever. The chemistry, the angst, the pining, it was all unbelievably amazing. Their beautiful romance is intertwined with their own personal struggles and I LOVE that in a book. Despite every character being so different I found that I could relate to all of them.

As for Poppy, she’s a gymnast which was kinda of weird for me to read because I used to be a competitive gymnast

i really liked this one. it’s probably my second favorite of the series. i loved aaron’s nda poppy together even though some of the plot points were really dumb. i would have liked to see them together a little bit more but overall i did really enjoy it and i’m happy because i was so excited for ashleigh and ezra’s book and was let down so i’m pleased. that this one was so great.
as i read: i feel so bad for poppy and how her mom is treating her as second. if there could just not be a bitchy girl obsessed with the guy character that would be great. i need aaron to have a little bit more of a reason for pushing poppy away. okay why is flick such an ass like that’s so unnecessary. once or twice is normal but she’s just rude to poppy. it’s a little weird how much all these books focus on jase and not all six of the originals. aaron is such a fucking idiot like zara annoys everyone and he’s like i’m trying to keep the peace like dumbass why are u doing that it’s just hurting everyone.

I liked Aaron and I liked Poppy, I just felt like their story was too much like Ezra and Ashleigh minus the whole amnesia thing.  Might have been just me but all their yearning and excuses seemed to be the same.

Poppy and Aaron's story was full of angst just like LA Cotton loves to deliver. this college sports romance, the angst, and slow-burn were very well balanced, I enjoyed their story, the heartache and overall it was so worth it. This series is a total recommendation if you love sports romance with angst and great characters.
