This is a very different book from "Girl with a Pearl Earring."

This book takes place in London from 1901-1910, following the lives of two families, the COlemans and the Waterhouses. We hear numerous voices here too - adults, children, scullery maid, grave digger, doyene. Chevalier's gift here is making us care about these various people - especially Maude - who grows physically, emotionally and intellectually through the timespan of the book.

Like Girl with a Pearl Earring it is fascinating in its portrayal of life in a certain time period (in turn of the century England) - story stayed with me.

Davvero un libro bellissimo, i personaggi sono caratterizzati nei minimi dettagli, e sono personaggi bellissimi. Un perfetto ritratto dell'Inghilterra del 900.

I am listening to this in my vehicle. So far, it has a really surprise beginning....think SWINGERS!! I am also listening to this because I have been really enjoying LISTENING to this author. She has a great style of writing that sounds good, so its nice with someone reading it to me.

Ok, so I finished the book, and I was really surprised at how DIFFERENT this book was compared to other books I listened to by this author. There was a lot of discussion about death and cemeteries...weird how it was tastefully done. I really enjoyed it, and the color BLUE was used again, but in a less symbolic way. Overall, I really liked this book, and I look forward to listening to ANOTHER book by Tracy. We are on a first name basis, and she has become my official "DRIVING AUTHOR!"

Cemeteries and suffragettes in turn-of-the-20th-century London. Chevalier is good at what she does - compelling historical fiction.

I chose this book because I really liked Girl With a Pearl Earring. Unfortunately, I didn't have the same connection with Falling Angels. It was difficult from the beginning-- the first few chapters were narrated by 5 year olds that sounded more like they were 70... The content was interesting--set in the first years of the 20th century and focusing on Women's Suffrage.

Not my favorite because I felt that switching perspectives and skipping across time so often made it feel a little disjointed but there’s a charm to it I can’t quite articulate.
