I wanted to give Agatha Christie a try but she's not for me

I really enjoyed re-reading (or re-listening actually) Miss Marple's first "case". It's been many years since the first time I read this mystery, and I found that I was as confused and surprised as before. Ms Christie does a wonderful job (as usually) of throwing you off the scent, and just as you think you have it all figured out, something else is thrown in to make you start over again. My only gripe (small, small one) is that Miss Marple is much in the background and only pops up here and there. But, it makes sense as this is the novel where she is introduced. A great AC mystery!

It wasn't bad, but I wasn't a fan. I love Agatha Christie's more well-known works. I honestly chose this book because I heard the leading character, Miss Marple, is a knitter. She did not knit in this book in particular, though I'm sure if I continue in the series there will be instances of the knitting detective. Miss Marple is a lovely character, and I was a fan, though I had trouble relating to the narrator and other characters in the story.

Entertaining ... But ... Miss Marple is a gossip with her nose in everyone's business, and Christie gives her characters horrible things to say about women the whole way through. As with Poirot novels, there's a general snobby classism throughout as well.

Not narrated by Richard E Grant but by Joan Hickson 🤷🏻‍♀️

Consumed as an audiobook - how better to let the roadtrip miles roll past?
This work is Miss Marple's debut to us - and it does not disappoint. Agatha Christie, as a master of mystery, has you thinking through plot twists (and possible clues!) to determine just whodunit. Another reason why I enjoy her works - a view into life of the 1920s along with the colorful turns of phrase that are so fun to hear.
