Very good. The Jekyll and Hyde stuff was about as subtle as a sledgehammer which began to ruin it a little. Character building some of the best I have read, we care about the plot. I can begin to see how it came about that these were made into a telly series as well.

A nice and well-written story. The end was disappointing though. Also, the book being old, it is interesting to note all the taboos related to homosexuality. The author is not homophobe, or at least he doesn't show it, but the way the subject is approached reminisces us of another time.

This is the second Ian Rankin novel I read. I am trying to go through the Inspector Rebus series. In the first novel, the character was more developed. In the second, his personnality seems to have changed, and blends a little bit with those of other characters. It becomes more of a generic crime novel.
