catherine, called birdy. all i can say is wow. i loved this book. i had so much fun reading it, even though i had some idea of what would happen next due to me watching the movie with bella ramsey months before reading the book.
i loved this book, and birdy's wits and her loving for trouble and mischief was just my favorite. she reminds me of myself, and she is now my spirit animal.
i'd rate this book five stars, but i loved the movie just a smidge better. other than that i think it has become a new favorite for me.

Cushman does a really good job of capturing daily medieval life. Birdy is the only character who doesn't feel truly medieval (she feels very modern), although I did like seeing the world through her eyes.

Read when I was a kid, and re-read this year during my lunch breaks. It's a fine wee tale; Birdy is a spunky realistic character even if the setting and tone may be inaccurate. I figure this got more than a fair few kids interested in Medieval History. The kind of book I'd like to pass down to my own kids, should I ever have some.
