Read as night time audio book. Made it difficult to follow story. Did not care for the narrator’s voices and accents. Interesting ideas in the book but just not for me.

I have to admit that when I first started this book, I had to make sure that Eddings had written it, because the writing style is so unlike The Belgariad (although, it has been a long time since I have read the Belgariad). I didn't like this book as much as I wanted to. I did, however, like the humor in it. I found myself laughing quite a bit. Other times, the dialogue just seemed so simplistic that it seemed to be aimed for a younger audience.

An excellent story, a wonderful new world where anything can happen, where good always triumphs over evil, and the unlikeliest people can become heroes.

It's fairly well written although slightly repetitive, which I suppose is to be expected from a book this long, however if you can get over that (and the major misspelling in the Kindle edition!) it is a good epic that welcomes you into the family.

Sometimes it's not good to go back and read your favorites...

Don't get me wrong, I still really enjoyed the story, but I noticed a lot of casual sexism and there seems to be no diversity at all.

This is a fun fantasy read. David Eddings tends to create characters that fill tropes, but he gives them lively personalities that make their stories enjoyable.

Ok, so, this book is stupid and dumb. Did I have fun reading it? Yes. But I would not recommend. The first few chapters are the most interesting, cause they don’t feel like the rest of the book. I read the Belgarid before, and tell me why, this book literally copied the characters over from that series. Idk, thr plot was hella boring, no stakes, nothing. The villains were boring and the way they solved thr problems was interesting, but relied tooo much on fricking Ger. I thought he was kinda funny, but looking back at it, he was just a plot device who comes up with all the solutions, like he’s 9. How can he fricking solve and come up with literally impossible and implausible problems. I hate the way he pacified the queen lady/girl (I forget her name, something with a) she was soo badass at the beginning, you know a queen who isn’t afraid to kill. And then she just turns into the little girl that can’t do anything for her herself but be bossy to her love interest and litterly just feeds him. Like huh? Reinforicing thr patriarchy much?!?! Anyway boring book, don’t read.

Eddings is one of my favorite fantasy authors, and the Redemption of Athalus is, in my opinion, his greatest work. While I love his series, they tend towards repetitiveness. Athalus, the anti-hero, is a fresh breeze.

This didn't hold up as well as the Belgariad or Elenium, but it was still a fun, nostalgic adventure.

Maybe rounded up to three stars.

Did not take a shine to it the same way that I recall doing so for other books by the author(s).

At times repetitive, at times preachy, not what I remember the Eddings for, but that might be old age on my part.
