Benny and Penny in Lights Out! is another great title in the Easy-to-Read Comics series published by Toon Books. In this book, Benny and Penny, a brother and sister mice duo, are supposed to be going to bed. While Penny attempts to brush her teeth and read a book, Benny, in typical brother fashion, terrorizes her with jump scares and scary stories. The pair does enough running around to eventually wear themselves down for sleep, but readers follow them on their nighttime adventures. Young readers with siblings will, undoubtedly, be familiar with this sort of routine, and Geoffrey Hayes’ soft, almost crayon-like illustrations make the story that much more inviting. Similar to Tippy and the Night Parade, Lights Out! features a small number of panels per page (the most being five), larger text than one might typically see in a graphic novel, and repeated use of onomatopoeias with which young readers will be familiar. Perfect for its intended audience and for any child wishing to begin reading graphic novels, Benny and Penny in Lights Out! is an essential purchase for school and public libraries.

I only give it three stars, but my three-year-old daughter gives it five—she has the whole book memorized.

February 2018 - I like this one a bit better than The Toy Breaker - maybe because it's easier to read aloud a graphic novel with only two characters. Ben has asked for it over and over.

Not bad, story is a little disjointed, but kids will enjoy it for its simple, silly humor.
