I don't know how many times I tried to read Beautiful Creatures but I have never finished it. When I saw it was in a graphic novel/manga, I thought I would try and read it in this type of format. I wasn't thrill that it was manga because I am not a big fan of manga (prefer graphic novels) but I thought I would actually finish it and finally figure out what happens in the end.

The story was just kind of ok, interesting, but I felt like this story has kind of been done before with the whole something is going to happen when you turn 16 storyline... I was surprised that this didn't really have a cliffhanger ending because I know it is the first in a series. If there are more manga, I might read them but no rush.

I am however excited to see the movie because I have heard there are many big changes that they do that are not in the book.

I liked this better than the actual novel of it. I enjoyed seeing images of it.
Why can't wait Ethan in the movie look like manga Ethan?!

As a collector and a lover of this series, I also had to have this graphic novel. So, I bought it off of someone in a facebook group and decided to read it right away. But just like with the movie, it's very hard to capture the true magic and uniqueness of this story in any other way.

The original story is clever, has a lot of build up and amazing scenes and then an epic finale. And of course both the movie and the Grapic Novel have to make choices and leave things out of change things. But everything they leave out and everything they change, just takes away from the complexity and the layers of the original story.

I enjoyed reading the graphic novel because it brought back all the memories and the love for the characters, but without the book I wouldn't have felt all that. It was more because it made me relive the book in one hour that I enjoyed it, not because I truly think it works on its own.

These graphic novels are much too short to encompass a novel in a complete way. I was able to make sense of what was happening, but there were large jumps in information that really made it hard for me to grasp the story at times. Trying to condense a 563 page novel into 250 is a near impossible task so it doesn’t surprise me. It was also a little confusing at times because of the way story bubbles were placed.

This graphic novel is definitely for fans of the original novel to experience in a new medium because I was not moved or really invested in the story but the drawings were cool and it was a really quick read.
