Honestly, it's really well written, but very depressing. Very futile and honestly I wish I didn't read it so everyone stayed happy in my mind.

I hesitantly give this a 2 star rating (this may change after I've had more time to truly digest). I enjoyed the first two books in this trilogy, and I also enjoyed a few parts of this book. However, something was just off. I found that I really disliked and had problems with what happened in this book.

Update: I am very disappointed.

I was so-so on this series from the beginning, but this one actually felt like a chore. I found the characters overall unlikeable (but not in the good way that is morally grey) and no one got what I'd actually call a character arc. Even though people died for it, I never actually felt like anything had stakes, because we spent so much time at a crawl of nothing? For a character-driven experience, I honestly couldn't tell you anything deep about a single character.

But at least I stuck around long enough to push through to the ending. Though I'm ultimately left wondering at the why of it.

I should have DNFed this book. It was so long mostly due to the fact that it's just the main characters inner monologues through the whole thing. And I can't even tell you what happened. Except for the ending,
where all the characters I cared even a little bit about died.
Booktok was wrong on this series, guys. Don't bother.
