Interesting storyline, but I wish it had more....meat. It was kind of hard to keep up with who was who and the point of all the killing.

I raced through this book, again an amazing end tying all the threads together, I love how characters we have met previously play a part in the newer books. The reveals are always hard to predict, I did find the main family a bit complicated maybe one too many characters, a fault of mine as I always struggle to keep track of names and relationships between characters.

It’s characteristic of this genre but wow .... that lack of a happy ending :-/

Written in 1993 and set in 1961, this mystery/private eye tale is much more than the genre usually provides: an unrestrained critique of the racism of the times, told from the perspective of an African American author and his main character, Easy Rawlins. I would have given three stars to the story itself, but the social commentary definitely adds heft to the picture of the times - then and now.
