There are too many things going on. Sometimes I didn't know if I was in the past or present.

The narrator couldn't save the book.

Wish I read this rather than listened. Might plan to do that in the future.

There’s an old saying: The first lie wins. It’s not referring to the little white kind that tumble out with no thought; it refers to the big one. The one that changes the game. The one that is deliberate. The lie that sets the stage for everything that comes after it. And once the lie is told, it’s what most people believe to be true. The first lie has to be the strongest. The most important. The one that has to be told.

Well, this was fun!

This book was a thrilling cat-and-mouse game rich with scheming and action that felt like I was watching a movie. The plot is filled with clever twists and turns, making for an engaging and entertaining read. Although I initially struggled to connect with the protagonist and the story, things picked up around 30% into the book, and I'm glad I stuck with it.

One of the standout elements of this novel is the found family dynamic, which adds depth and warmth to the story. The romance subplot is well-executed, and the feminist touches throughout the book are highly appreciated. The plot twist regarding Mr. Smith's identity caught me by surprise, which was a pleasant revelation amidst some other predictable twists.

The book's scheming, the constant one-upmanship, the thrilling chase, and the satisfying reveals all contribute to a neat and fulfilling ending. The ending put a smile on my face and was satisfying to say the least. This story is highly enjoyable and would make a great book-to-movie adaptation, given its cinematic feel and fast-paced action. I'm very much looking forward to reading more of Ashley Elston's works if this is what she’s serving.
