Got to know about this book from a list of recommended readings by E Hemingway. It is a short story. Simple and elegantly written, and with a brilliant ending.
The writing touches upon themes of fate, consequences of human action, and justice. The writing style is sparse, and in that is what shines the most.

Read this for my American Realism and Naturalism class. Left me a bit confused as to what happened.

I'm not sure how or why this works, but it does. Gets under your skin, and despite being a short story/novella, stays there.
