This is a 1000000/10 book and I wish I could read it over and over again for the first time. I will be slightly unhinged for a moment with mood spoilers about the end of the book.
I have become a black hole after completing this book. I feel like I've been destroyed. the end isn't even explicitly sad. like if u cry every time

Well, I was sure I would enjoy this one! But I couldn't get into the characters and the main character just bugged me! I loved the concept though, wish it held my interest!

I generally enjoyed this story, the world building and writing was great, I thought how Cara’s thoughts and actions related to her previous abusive relationship with Nik Nik were interesting and realistic, and it has some good discussion on the whole nature vs. nurture debate.

That being said I had a couple qualms with it:

- We need more Dell in the story!! She’s right there on the cover but it felt like she was barely there!
Her and Cara ending up together at the end felt pretty unsatisfying because I saw these two interact so little

- It took a hot second to get to the real central conflict of this book. Halfway though I was like okayyyy where is this going?

-Some mild instances of telling not showing but I can forgive it

This was excellent. The themes of classism and racism where a pleasant surprise, for whatever reason I was not expecting that, but I really enjoyed them. The world building was great and this is a fascinating concept. The characters were a real highlight, every single one was complex and nuanced and just so interesting. Loved the character dynamics.

I fear I may have failed some of the moral/ethical questions this book poses. And bc I am incapable of NOT self-reflecting I will be thinking on this for a while.

I have a feeling I will be thinking of this book a long time. Scifi is always a bit tough for me for reasons that are many, but there were very intriguing concepts presented here - and I simultaneously wanted to cheer Cara on and felt bad for her.
