I think I liked this one even better than the first one.
Loved all the magical aspects in this. Also, I've listened to this as an audiobook and the woman who does all the voices is absolutely brilliant.

This was a really great sequel, although I didn’t love it as much as nevermoor. This was still a fun and magical read. I gave it 4 stars because it felt slow at the beginning and I had a slightly difficult time getting into the writing again but I once it started picking up, I was enjoying it more! I really loved the found family themes continued on in the sequel with the wundrous society junior unit 919! I loved seeing the characters work together and form friendships. I loved seeing Morrigan accept that being a wundersmith isn’t evil! Excited to see what happens in Hollowpox!

This was a fun continuation of the Nevermoor series. It continued to rely on the trope of the main character not telling things to adults and thus causing more trouble for herself, but at least this time there was a plot relevant reason for that.

Morrigan is back, a new year, new events, new powers, new friends, dangers, and more!
I have had this book on my shelves for weeks, for some reason whenever I tried reading it something else came up. But then I finally decided to just open it and read. And voila. I was gone. Gone in the story. The second year of Morrigan Crow.
This book was just so good. We learn so many new things about Nevermoor, like that with the streets. I would definitely be afraid of streets if I was living there. The idea that a street can just turn you inside out or throw you up in the air... *shivers* But I guess, it is also part of the fun and intrigue of living there. Some of these streets do teleport you elsewhere and it would be quite fun to see where one would end up next. I loved those lessons at Wunsoc. The kids learning all about the city, about the boroughs, and that living map? Oh man, I need that in my life.
We learn more about Morrigan's powers. I am glad that we the readers follow Morrigan and discover them with her as she discovers them. For instance in this one she learns about the Wretched Arts and what kinds there are (or at least a few of them) and how to use them. But also learns what happens if you crop things up (nothing good). I can't wait to see what more there is to Wundersmiths and what more they can do. Because it seems the possibilities are endless.
I am glad that we were able to go to that mysterious bazaar in the summer, though sad that it was cut short. I would have loved to see more of it, it seems like such a magical and wonderful place filled with wonders all over.
The unit? I was happy that they were now officially a team, initiated, but I felt sad that Morrigan's family wasn't so easily made. Thankfully, she still has Hawthorne and also Cadence seems to warm up to her. Now it was just up to the rest to warm up to Morrigan and see that they are in this together. Miss Cheery was the perfect fit for this unit, I loved how much she protected her kids and how she tried to make everything happy and good for them. How she listened to them. I hope in the next book(s) we will see the unit and Ms Cheery grow closer together, eventually becoming a true family and true friends.
The mystery of the letters? I had a suspicion, but I definitely hadn't expected it was that. And I was even more surprised to learn who they were protecting!
There was also ton of excitement with missing people and animals, a Ghastly Market, Bonesmen (who you don't want to meet, anywhere), the Deucalion which I still would love to visit and stay at for a few months, and I loved seeing the lessons the other characters had (or we at least heard of them).
I love that each book is a year in Morrigan's life, and so I can't wait to see what will happen in year 3. Now that she is in that part of the Wunsoc, I can't wait to see what she is going to be learning, next to the WA.
Oh, and as for that headmistress/schoolmistress? I hadn't expected that.
The Museum of Stolen Moments? Dang, on the one hand it seemed like a gorgeous place.. until you learn of the truth. :(
Jupiter was a fantastic character, HOWEVER, I was just so annoyed with him in this book. I get that he is important, that he has missions, but he should have been there for Morrigan more. So many things happened in this one, and if only he had taken more time to be with her, maybe things would have gone different. Thankfully, he is there at times, and he is working hard to make sure she is happy. He even went against some important people. He went and searched for her so she would know that Wundersmiths aren't always bad. He gave her food when she had had a bad day and he was around. But yeah, I was still pissed at that he was so often away. Right in this important time, and in the midst of all sorts of things going bonkers.
I was pissed at the people at Wunsoc. Treating Morrigan like that. I mean, I get it, she is Wundersmith. Ezra is one and he is lunatic (well for most). But do you really think it is OK to just ignore her and put her in a lesson to make her feel absolutely crappy? Or act like she is dangerous all the time? Even calling her a weapon? A beast? I am sorry, I would have exploded in fury or would have just hid in my bed forever if that happened to me. Luckily, Morrigan is stronger, but you can see that she is very hurt by it all. Not to mention that things keep happening around her, that shows that she clearly needs to learn how to use her powers, she needs to learn what a Wundersmith means. You can't just hide that from her. Later on we learn, from Ezra the one who does somehow cares about Morrigan, that it was a very dangerous step of the Wunsoc, because yes, power builds, and builds, and builds. :|
The ending was brilliant, I already couldn't put down the book, but now I really couldn't stop and I had to put things on hold as I needed to finish this book. I needed to know how everything would end.
I could probably talk about this book more, but I will just keep it at this. So I will end that this is a fantastic book, and I had tons of fun reading it. I now definitely need book 3!

Those lessons with that tortoisewun? I had a suspicion that most of those stories were exaggerated and twisted, and I am glad to see that there is indeed more to Wundersmiths then what the book said. That they weren't all as bad as Ezra is.
