T.A. Barron does it again with this enchanting and action-filled third book in the Merlin's Dragon series! Ultimate Magic picks up right where Book 2, Doomraga's Revenge, left off, with the threat of the mysterious "darker than dark" evil that's haunting the wonderful world of Avalon. Basilgarrad, everybody's favorite gargantuan emerald green dragon, can barely keep up with the conflict growing in his magical realm. However, in the end, and with the help of a few friends, he might be just be able to save the day! This book will grab you from the start, whirl you around, and leave you, exhilarated, wanting more. With memorable characters, thrills, chills, love, revenge, epic battles, and more, this story has something for everyone.

This was what I expected from the last book - the final battle and wrap up from the war. While it was more what I had anticipated it still wasn't my favorite from the series as it still felt like the events should have happened sooner. Some of the big moments fell flat like the young dragon finally producing flame but his mentor not really recognizing and celebrating it. It feels as if the character development and them staying true to their own values has not been as important as it was in previous books.

I didn't like this series as much as the Lost Years ones.
