Happy first read of the year! Had to kick it off with Maggie Gates. Her writing is so real and honest that every character sucks you right in. I loved Miles, he's by far one of my favorite MMCs. I mean, common who doesn't love Crocs?! Iconic. While this ‘wasn’t my favorite’ of hers that I’ve read I still really enjoyed it, she’s just set a very high bar for herself! I loved finally getting to see Whitney West's story after hearing about her in other books.

Frickin swoon city. I loved this book. I woke up with insomnia to read it. The relationship between Annie & Miles was sweet, kind, respectful … I loved them. Apparently I like bodyguard romances now too? In need of more recommendations.

What I loved:
- Annie’s Pies!
- Revealed identity!
- Rubber duck shorts & crocs
- Annie’s Fanny Pack
- all of Miles’ nicknames for Annie
- both of Miles’s families: the Zhou’s and Keller & Associates
- the suspense
- Annie’s inner monologue
- what happened what Miles heard Annie call herself “Just Annie” … damn.
- the cameos! (Hey chase & Bridget! Hannah Jane! Jo! Tatum & Wren!)
- the plot twist
- Ophelia becoming a softie

One of my favorite Annie quotes “could have done without the kidnapping” 🤣 but what’s a bodyguard romance without a needed rescue?

10/10 recommend!!

This book was so good. Annie is a pie owner by day and by night she is a author that goes by the name Whitney West. Annie is being stalked so her assistant hires a bodyguard. Miles is a former MMA fighter/bodyguard that is hired to protect Annie on her book tour. This book is bodyguard and secret identity.

WHAT A MASTERPIECE.

Miles is the my new favourite book boyfriend and nobody will ever top him off. the annie-pack? the proving to her she's not broken? unknowingly training her in case she needs it? helping her see how brave she is? s w o o n i n g !!

the intensity of the scene at the end of the book was crazy and i was literally sitting on the edge of my seat because of it and reading annie realize how brave/strong she is made me so proud.

i really enjoyed the nuance between Whitney and Annie and how much she needed them both to live her life until Miles barged in.

the spice is immaculate and yes i need more of them. I had not read a book with spice this good in a very long time and i missed it. and i do not mean in the sense that it was well written and executed but also in the sense that it made sense with the story!

my favorite books/character has a cameo and i literally screamed!

maggie is now on my auto-boy author list ; she can do no wrong.

thank you @authormikaylachristy for the rec! 🧡
