I found it fascinating. Went back and read the New York Times article that was the basis for the book.

This is the author's conversion story, as well as his parents' conversion story. His parents begin life as Jews and become Catholic, and he begins life as a Catholic and becomes a Jew. It's funny how life comes full circle like that.

I love this book. Identify with Stephen in so many ways- what is it like to be inter-faiths? What does god have to do with anything? Can we struggle and strive beyond religion? Grappling with god in my own ways. Need to ask Manelle what her experience was like (catholic muslim). Recommended by Aunt Harriet

I really, really loved this book. The author does a brilliant job of telling his family's story with both clarity and acknowledgement that when discussing a family no one thing is true. As a Jew by choice, both the intensity of his parents' conversions to Catholicism and his own more measured return to Judaism spoke deeply to me. Most of all, the author's voice was so easy to read that I got through this entire book in a single day. It was a great reading experience and I'm really glad I had it.

I read this years ago and it was a fascinating memoir about a young man who learns that his parents were raised as Jews and then converted to Catholicism. Fun fact--this is the same Stephen Dubner who does the Freakanomics radio show.
I don't remember when I read it but my grandmother gave me the rec and she died in 2004.

Really interesting and heartfelt exploration of the author's parents' conversion from Judaism to Catholicism and then his own return to Judaism.
