Fifteenth and last (wahhh) in the Morganville Vampires urban fantasy series for Young Adults and revolving around Claire Danvers and her friends in Morganville, Texas.

You really should read Fall of Night , 14, before you read this one as Caine doesn't provide much background on what happened in that story that would help explain the Glass Team's attitudes towards the Daylighters in this story.

My Take
Oh, wow. What a way to end a series. Caine started out where she left off in Fall of Night, 14, with the vampire arrests and total foreboding as to what will happen to both humans and vampires.

Actually, foreboding is too small a word for what I felt as I read. Terrifying. Heart in my mouth. I was unable to read fast enough and part of me wanted to set the book aside as I was so worried about what would happen. Trust me though. You do want to read on to see what happens. Just be sure to monitor that heart rate as you read!

Caine keeps the suspense going and going and going. I've learned that I do love a storyline that keeps me wondering, tense, hopeful, worried, yes, all of it. I tend to fall into a story and believe in the characters, so when an author does it right, sigh, I'm right there. Of course, the opposite is true as well.

In this, Caine works it very well, keeping in touch with the characters' various personalities, working our emotions, hauling in parallels with Hitler and his own style of cleansing. It's the totalitarian feel that really amps up the fear.

It's a little scary as I did like some of what the Daylighters did for Morganville. Only, it's not enough. I guess I really don't care for rulers who need concentration camps and false arrests that require prison breaks… Who knew?

It probably is time to end it. And it's going out on a high note: I still love the characters, the stories (for the most part) have been excellent, and yes, I think Caine ended it well in keeping with the characters and overall tone of the series. It doesn't mean I like that it's ended, and I'm going to be upbeat and assume that Caine has already started work on another series with which I'll fall in love as well.

The Story
Rhys Fallon is determined to remove vampires from existence. In any way necessary. Nor does he intend to stop with simply the vampires. Anything that's sentient and non-human will be destroyed. Including the Glass House.

The Characters
Claire Danvers, Myrnin's brilliant yet human assistant, has returned from MIT with her boyfriend, the vampire-hater, Shane Collins, along with his best friend, Michael Glass, a vampire married to the Goth-loving Eve Rosser Glass (Black Dawn, 12) who drives a hearse and works as a barista. Miranda is the new resident ghost of Glass House. She's lucky in her psychic abilities as they, combined with the Glass House, allow her to assume a physical form and leave the House for short periods.

Myrnin is a brilliant mad-scientist vampire with no clue as to proper dress. Bob the Spider is one of his pets. Jesse is a vampire and was Lady Jane Gray in her human life. She was a bartender back in Cambridge in Fall of Night and was supposed to be keeping an eye on Dr. Anderson for Amelie.

Jenna is a human psychic who stayed in Morganville after events in Bitter Blood, 13, and has become friends with Miranda. Monica Morrell is the daughter and sister of the late mayors of Morganville. She was the lead mean girl in her time, and time has not mellowed her. Wait'll you read about her apartment, LOL. Channing is her teacup Chihuahua.

Amelie was the Founder of Morganville. Oliver has been Amelie's nemesis in the past, and he was banished from Morganville for his actions in Bitter Blood, 13. Ayesha was rescued with Oliver. Jason Rosser, Eve's evil brother, is being groomed as Oliver's second-in-command.

Morley, the leader of the vampires, shares power with Mrs. Grant, the town librarian, in the town of Blacke, Texas.

Hannah Moses is back to being the chief of police (perfect with her military background). Gramma Day is Hannah's grandmother, a very smart lady; Lisa joined the Daylighters. Hal is one of the cops who knows how to wrangle these strange new "dogs". Bud, Friendly seems a bit short in the head, Charlie Kentworth, Valerie Halling seems more fanatical, and Detective Simonds are some of the cops.

Father Joe, the priest who married Michael and Eve, warns Miranda. Rad runs the motorcycle shop/mechanic's garage where Shane stores his car.

The Daylight Foundation is an anti-vampire organization that won't let anything stand in their way to clear the vamps out; their members are referred to as Daylighters. Rhys Fallon has a very chequered career: human to vampire to human again. He started the Daylight Foundation and is determined with a Nazi-like obsession. VLAD is the Vampire Leveling Adjustment Device Claire invented, and Dr. Irene Anderson continued to work on. Dr. Anderson was supposed to have been one of Amelie's most trusted agents, Claire's mentor at MIT, only...she's a traitor to the vampires. The hellhounds are part of Fallon's advance team. Amanda is one of the lab attendants.

Mrs. Doreen Hodgson is a neighbor of the kids on Lot Street, who seems to be caught in the 1950s. Flora Ramos is the new anti-vampire mayor.

The Cover
The cover is Claire staring out at us from in front of a cloud-laden sky.

The title is the enemy, the Daylighters.

The End. Yes, after 7 years and 15 books Morganville has finally reached it;s conclusion. It has been an enjoyable run with these very eclectic characters. I will will miss them. I will miss Myrinirn with his outrageous outfits, his cute pet Bob and his bunny slippers, most of all. It ends in a satisfying bang that couldn't have been more satisfying. Good bye old friends.

She did it again

So glad I finally made my way through the end of this series. Some of the middle felt rough but these last two books were my characters and my town at its finest. I'm also sad to leave them and I'm sure I'll be back to my favorites again. So impressed and yet not surprised that Rachel Caine made me feel a lot of feelings and stay up too late at night, yet again to finish a morganville book ❤️ and what a perfect epilogue ❤️

Now that I have finally finished the series I'm ready to give my thoughts. (2.75/5).

I can definitely see if I had finished this when I first started reading these as a teenager how I would have enjoyed every book from the first to the last. However, as an adult they were just okay.

I really liked the tension and romance between Shane-Claire and Michael-Eve at first, but by like the 7th book it just got annoying. This may have been because the same phrases were used over and over again to describe the interactions between them.

As far as the town goes, I love the idea of a town ran by Vampires

This is a book I have been waiting for since May. Yep, a whole 6 months since I read Fall of Night and NEEDED to know how this epic series was going to end.

I have to admit, whilst it was a bit anti climactic, there was no other way for this series to end. Caine was able to tie up every lose end which gave readers and fans of the series closure. I've seen more than one person saying it felt as if they were saying goodbye to good friends.

The characters were the biggest draw of the series for me. Shane, Claire, Eve, and Michael in particular. Considering these are YA books, these four characters never delt as if they'd been babied down for the intended audience. They swear, they make mistake, and they have sex. Nothing is gratuitous, it's all done with taste and give them that essential third dimension to make them realistic.

Daylighters picks up not long after the ending of Fall of night and our motley crew have returned to Morganville. Things are different as the vamps are no longer in charge. That's a good thing, right? You'd think so, but Claire and the gang are resolved to turn things around to save their friends and loved ones.

With the help of recurring characters, they fight the good fight, but will they succeed and survive? Well, i'm not going to spoil it for you.

Once again, Caine is able to suck you into a world that seems entirely plausible and makes the reader think a lot of "what ifs". This is the sign of a good book. if you feel like it could happen... somewhere, then instantly you feel as if you are part of the story.

As with all the other books in the series, I couldn't put it down until I knew what happened. A page turner from the very beginning, this is a series I will definitely read again now it's complete. I'm not quite ready to say goodbye.

Friends, it is done. except for the small oversight in the fact that there is a book full of the short stories I didn’t bother tracking down in my haste to see what happens next, and I shall read that soon lol

I recommend this series fully.

First… Claire rubbing Amelie’s blood all over her to lead the hell hound off was ingenious and I love her for it. (I’d have liked to explore the hell hound/werewolf aspect because if vampires exist then that opens a whole building full of other doors…)

Second though, is that Claire wasn’t gone a couple weeks max and I honestly think one week is stretching things, and I work in construction and I’m telling you brand new buildings do not go up that quickly. Not even dollar generals.

Anyway. I really enjoyed this series. I might even have to buy copies for myself because I absolutely plan on reading them again, though I may check out the audiobooks.

I’ve watched so many characters grow, and they were all done really well. There were very few plot holes or mistakes, there are just a couple I can think of, but there are 15 books in this series. Not bad. Some of these characters may piss you off one book and then in the next leave your head spinning while you’re making banners to root for them… only to do something so outrageous the following book you shred your brand new banners. I loved it.

The banter and humor is consistent, the characters rarely feel “off” - and if they do, unfortunately there’s probably some supernatural reason for it.

I guess I can go ahead and tell you Claire doesn’t leave Shane for Myrnin. Which is utterly heartbreaking. Except of course that I’d rather have him myself so maybe there’s hope.

Fanatical peoples are dangerous peoples. Just because in the short term something ugly benefits a larger group does not mean it’s right. In fact if people are being hurt it almost always is wrong. (I always finish these too late when I’m tired and fail to complete my train of thought or hesitate to write something bc I know I’m forgetting the exception to the rule or what have you.) Live and let live is the name of the game.

Considering the rest of the series was thrilling and addictive, I expected the prologue to be an equal reflection... I was disappointed; it was brief, evasive and pretty much had a sentence to rid us of the Myrin/Claire will they-won't they. Plus...we never found out what happened to Myrin after Claire zapped him with VLAD as a protocol.

Not the best one of the series. I found it very predictable and a bit cheesy.
