Note: I listened to the audiobook of this.
If this book was bad enough, or not enough to my taste, I would have stopped listening. I finished it, which shows something. Summaries of this book made it sound right up my alley. It turns out it wasn’t.
The overall plot was alright, and is what held my attention with this book. I also liked that the last chapter was the letter that Jekyll wrote to Utterson. However, Jekyll’s explanation of his mess was eye-rolling. Hyde wasn’t given much motive for his actions, besides being “pure evil,” which was frustrating. The method and effects of transformation also left me with a lot of questions, which may or may not have been the author’s intent.
I also had problems with the characters. I was either neutral to or in strong dislike of any of the characters. Also, I couldn’t relate to any of the characters, which didn’t help matters, largely due to the fact that there were only a few female characters, none of whom were named, and whose only contribution to the story was wailing vaguely.
All in all, the book wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t good.

Really fun to read, a bit hard in this time because it is written in an older style but definitely worth getting through it.

This book, which is supposed to be a commentary on man’s duality of good and evil, was simply so boring. I don’t even have the energy to write a small review. It was anticlimactic, and I don’t like that everything came to us in the end via letters. The commentary on good and evil seemed surface level.

a really good but sad story of man and his fundamental nature, succumbing to temptation, and poor decision making

A bit hard to follow in terms of small details, but maybe that's because I listened to it on a higher speed ;P but I get the general plot.
Very intersting idea for its original publication time!
