There isn't much for me to say about this that I didn't already say in my review for The Magpie Lord.

I was a bit more invested in the story at hand than I was in the first book, but the character development I was wishing for was unfortunately still missing, leaving this book at the same 4 star rating as the first.

However, it was still a whole lot of fun, had a lot of cool and fun magic, had an interesting mystery, and didn't get dull at any point whatsoever. Good stuff; onward!

A nice addition to the first, but so short! I like how their relationship was tackled -some drama, but very satisfying. The grotesqueness of the murders and such gives the climax some actual stakes, which is nice. I like how the plot isn't riddled with awkward, unnecessary sex scenes. I'd rate the existing ones like a 6-7/10 for a novel sex scene. Appropriate hotness without the weird euphemisms and they don't drag on forever. Good read.

Still quite delightful, if less surprising in its delightfulness than [b:The Magpie Lord|17730586|The Magpie Lord (A Charm of Magpies, #1)|K.J. Charles|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1365084262s/17730586.jpg|24803707]. Poor K.J. Charles: now I Expect Things from her!

I continue to not be enamored of the romance (although it was quite sweet here), but once again the magical mystery was suspenseful and scary. I enjoyed this take on the Giant Rat of Sumatra. Esther (the badass Jewish magic practitioner lady) was suitably awesome, and I'm looking forward to more of the other justiciars, particularly Jenny Saint.

Will probably gobble down the next one posthaste.

What a fantastic follow up to the first book! It can be hard to stretch a romantic storyline over multiple books in a satisfying way but KJ Charles has pulled it off masterfully in this book! I haven't finished the series yet but I already know that I'm obsessed and I'll definitely be rereading it in the future.

This was such a great read. I really enjoyed getting to know the characters better, and the development of the romance was great. But the best part was the mystery that Crane and Stephen were trying to solve. There are so many pieces that came together. Loved it.
