I really enjoyed reading this book so much!!!! This book had me on the edge of my seat (not really, but on my mind's edge). This wonderful book had my head spinning with its nerve-racking adventures with every page you turned in it. The book just captured you and held you until the very last page!!!! WOW!!!!! I need to go back to the other books, but I'm missing one and that really hurts my heart to know that. Johanna Lindsey is an amazing author, so I need to get some more of her books that's for sure!!! Bravo Ms. Lindsey.

Set in 1819, and closely following the events of Gentle Rogue, this book begins with the Malory family awaiting the birth of James and Georgina's baby. James' niece, 17-year-old Amy Malory, has set her sights on Georgina's 36-year-old brother Warren. Amy will stop at nothing to make Warren her husband and nothing - not even Warren's clear lack of interest- will deter her pursuit.

I thought this was a good, entertaining romance and a strong entry in the Malory-Anderson series. It wasn't as good as Gentle Rogue, but I thought it was decidedly better than the first two books in the series. There was just something unique and interesting about the dynamic between Amy and Warren that kept me invested in the story. I feel like it's so unusual in a historical romance - especially an older bodice-ripper - to have the female lead be the driving force in the relationship. Amy is nothing short of aggressive in her in pursuit of Warren, leaving Warren bewildered and unsure of how to deal with her. It was simply unlike anything I have read in a HR so far.

In spite of that, not everything in this book worked for me. Amy and Warren come across as a really random pairing and it's hard to see what it is about Warren that would originally make Amy so determined to have him. I didn't really care for the age gap. I also thought that the climax of this story, and what was probably supposed to be the most exciting portion of the book
Spoiler(when Warren and Amy are kidnapped and taken to sea by a Chinese warlord)
fell extremely flat.

This was the first book in the Malory-Anderson series where it felt like it's assumed that the reader has read the previous books. That said, I think Johanna Lindsey hit her stride with the family in this book. I dunk on the Malory family in all of my reviews for this series because I genuinely don't like them, but I think Lindsey was able to make the family work for this book. She cut the family down to only a handful of the most tolerable characters and left the more uninteresting Malorys out entirely. I was so relieved that I didn't have to skim through a million tedious cameos from every member of the Malory family. What also works for this book is that James and Anthony Malory actually act like exasperated chaperones when it comes to Amy, rather than treating her with the weird, semi-incestuous reverence that they do for their niece Reggie.

In any case, I was pleasantly surprised with this book considering that my feelings for the series so far have been varied. Still, I don't see myself continuing with the Malory-Anderson family beyond this point.

First ever Johanna Lindsey and that's a 5 star.

As a lover of historical romance, I can't believe it took me this much time to read a Johanna Lindsey book but I'm so glad I finally did. I've missing out, that's for sure.

This book was the first in many months that I finished in one day. I couldn't put it down and definitely sacrificed sleep over it. The story itself is nothing exceptional but the characters, the family dynamic, the pace : everything was perfect. From the blurb, I really thought I was going to hate Amy. Shamelessly, pursuing a man that clearly states he doesn't want you is not something I usually like in a character but Amy pulled it off! It didn't bother me at all and I found her determination endearing and admirable.

Highly, highly recommend this HR to any lover of the genre.

Now, I'm off to read every book in the series.

This was a delightful read, the romance was fabulous and I loved the heroine! Amy was so bold and tenacious, even in the face of rejection. It was such a refreshing change of pace from the HRs I've been reading recently.
