Wow, I just really, really need a full length novel around this concept. By Solomon, of course. This was really interesting and so atmospherically creepy (some body horror and gore in there, too) and the prose, especially at the start, was so beautifully written. I have no doubt that this written in a full-form would have received 5 stars from me!

What had the Master and Missus known about growing something? All they knew was how to bleed something for all it was worth. What must it be like to live life when every interaction included the question, How much value can I extract from this?

What bothered Sully about Ziza's relentless happiness was that it was not the result of obliviousness, naivete, or ignorance. It was a happiness that knew pain and had to overcome it.

Really powerful stuff, for me a story about the cleansing, un-making and re-making power of anger. I really love Rivers Solomon's writing ([b:The Deep|42201962|The Deep|Rivers Solomon|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1549411869l/42201962._SY75_.jpg|64281827] was fantastic as well).

Was an interesting read and had some nice lines but I just didn't connect fully with the story. Can't wait to read more from them in the future!

This is a quick and intense read. I had flashes of Toni Morrison's Beloved and something unique alongside it. It's visceral, sharp, and cuts right to the core.
