This was supposed to be a "feel-good" read. I wasn't expecting it to hurt...Full Non-Spoiler review here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULAv6NxKROo&index=14&list=PLBwTRylwDXmA3S75x8m98JOQ56YyP2Pol

Update: Okay, honestly? I still think about this book sometimes and I really enjoyed most of it. Two stars was a really mean rating, and the ending wasn't even as bad as I made it out to be. I don't know why I was so angry lol but anyways.

Original Review: This book had so much potential, but the ending..... I was left feeling like I had read the story completely wrong, because I did enjoy most of the action that happened. But then the ending came and I realized I was so wrong. All I can say to the main character after that is: just shut up, you're only sixteen. Ugh. (Sidenote: it's really weird to read a book that was written and set in the 90's. I laughed so hard when it mentioned a "computer room", remember those?? That said, most of the time it still felt like the story could have been set today, which I think it's a good thing.)

I absolutely adored this book in middle school and high school. It was one (of a handful) that I re-read often during those years.

This was my first re-read as an adult and I honestly still had a fun time with it. There were certainly some moments/elements that my adolescent self swooned over but has me arching my eyebrow at as an adult. It’s not a perfect book by any means and you can absolutely tell that it was released in the 90s. But it doesn’t have anything too egregious (that I caught at least) that would earn it the “didn’t age well” designation.

The “romance” certainly fits into the insta-love category but is, in my opinion, far less annoying as other vampire YA novels that became popular in the early two thousands.
I also found myself still enjoying the ridiculous banter and edginess that younger me loved so much.

The ending was also so incredibly rushed. The rest of the story has great pacing and everything plays out in what feels like a reasonable time frame. And the abruptly everything just…ends. It felt like the editor/publisher literally just cut out a couple chapters at the end and called it good.  It feels like there’s an important step missing, which makes the ending feel far less satisfying. Especially since there is no sequel, despite the fact that the two main characters don’t end up together (Something that actually happened a lot in ‘90s YA stories).

Overall this was a fun, nostalgic re-read for me.

Exactly what I expected from a 90s teen vampire romance. It made me feel like my old emo middle school self again.

I was looking through my library's e-books and saw this cover. I swear I read this book a long, long time ago, but don't remember much about it, but the cover was so oddly familiar!

A different take on vampire stories. I just love this book! I have read it many times and always end up going back to it every once in a while. I find that it never gets old to read this, and I always find myself to be so interested in the characters.

A reasonably real-world encounter with a vampire. Illustrates the seediness of that life: need to hide, maintain different identities, ready to leave town at drop of a hat, need to dispose of bodies unobtrusively, etc. Kerry is excellent as heroine, very much possession of herself, alert to the very real dangers surrounding her situations, taking in information rationally, ever keeping what is truly important before her -- the safety of her father and younger brother.

Very quick and easy read. Highly recommended for the anti-Bella Swan crowd.
