Finally resolved to FF this, too much inner thoughts, not enough action.
The setting could not save it, together with some strange pictures these where the only good things about the book.
At times it reminded me of a Gothic Ghost Story, a little Horror here and there, veering into supernatural, some twists, nicely done the one in the end (with the 6 months later), but basically boring. Not my kind of book, have The Fire Child bought as this and The Fire Child where both recommended to me, and the reviews I read where 4 or 5 stars. Well, will look fast into that one to abandon it.
In the last years I fell for such bad drivel as Gone Girl, have yet to DNF Girl on a train, and maybe others (or I might not even start them). Looks to me like the whole genre "psychological thriller - unreliable narrator - drunk/drugs/mad" is not for me. Whatever, time is too short for such bad books.

What a tragic dark beginning. The death of a child, an identical twin in a horrible accident at 6 years of age. Horrors such as this can destroy the ones left behind, survivors guilt, what ifs and pain caused anger fueled by a massive fire burning lives into ashes. The fire is all consuming in this tale. I don’t enjoy watching people come undone, the suffering the blaming, it’s too painful. I didn’t enjoy the story but I loved the writing, excellent pacing and the suspense was dreadfully intense. All the characters are stuck in this muck of memories

The whole story is bleak even the setting. The setting is in Scotland where all places visited are described as cold, windy, foreboding places with depressing names. The home is run down alone and separate from the world. The setting fits perfectly for the story.
This surviving child, she frightened me, my heart broke for her and I disliked her.

She is so off, so twisted. Her other half is gone but not. Her existence is a lie ? I just couldn’t like her.

There are so many secrets Secrets cause pain, some of them are already exposed some stay hidden slowly revealing to a horrific realization.

I hated the story, hated the unending pain and sorrow. I am not a fan of sad books. I loved the writing, even with a subject I found unpalatable I could not stop reading. This author is a master at her craft.

Interesting for a while but doesn't hold up. By the end I wanted everyone to die.

i was hooked the whole time i was reading this, i honestly couldn't put the book down. it was interesting the whole way through, and i loved learning more and more and being able to guess at what really happened....... until the ending was revealed, it seemed like such a cop-out, and it's why i only gave it 4 stars, and not 5.

Spoilerthe whole, 'oh what really happened is this and we didn't know the whole book because the mother had memory loss of that one evening' is just so.... ugh idk i mean it's fun trying to put it together but there was no indication of that at all so it just....... seemed like a cop-out idk.

I absolutely hated this book. I wanted to love it because it's about twins and I have twins but it was just so annoying.

As a twin mom the whole "I couldn't tell them apart" thing was annoying AF. A mother KNOWS IDC how identical, but then the author explained it as an extreme rare case & I was like alright that could happen but then there were just too many "extremely rare" things happening to the same family like be so for real.

It was just all over the place honestly nothing made sense or came together well.

Not a scary as everyone says, but a gripping story non-the-less.
