This was so easy to rip through. The art style was wonderful. It had nice, thick lines so everything was clear and crisp. The colour palette was gorgeous - it was so vibrant, and set a summery Floridian atmosphere.
The plot was wholly investigation-focussed which is a must for me in mystery stories! It was paced satisfyingly and had a good conclusion, though I did want more signposting and complexity (although this is hard to do in such a short volume). I really liked how the historical context played into the mystery.
The characters were great. I felt like Goldie really developed over the course of the book and reached a whole new level of sleuthing, though I do want to see more meaningful development in the future. As well as Goldie, I got a really good feel for the side characters which is a testament to the book’s capability given its length.
In terms of the romance, I love that Goldie’s sapphic but I have to admit there isn’t much chemistry with the intended LI. Maybe that’ll change in future volumes, which I’ll definitely be reading!
Moderate: Kidnapping, Violence, and Car accident
Minor: Fire/Fire injury, Gun violence, Confinement, Death, Murder, and Vomit
