I think this is a good idea - give away a little freebie to give you a preview of the author's style. Much better than reading the first chapter (I never do that - I'm a completist and I'd have to finish the book regardless).
So yes, for me this worked. It's reasonably entertaining, and it made me want to read Bang in the Middle.

Having recently moved to the West Midlands, I thought this might be interesting.

Good things:
Motorhead
Canals (one outside the apartment)
The Archers (my Dad loves this)
Hobbits

Questionable things:
Marmite
The Salvation army
Stilton cheese
America (yes, you read that right.)

What the read didn't mention, were great things that came out of Birmingham:
The cooker
The photocopier
The vacuum cleaner
Smoke alarms
The pacemaker and so on.

More suited as a booklet for American tourists.
A middling three i.e. on the fence.

I have to admit that I knew some of these, and I think at least one of them goes over this Yank's head. Still, anything that lists Watchmen and Robin Hood isn't all bad. Quick, short, amusing. Pretty good for a price of zip.

I must admit this wasn't book like more of an article also I skipped parts just to find more facts about Leicester/Leicestershire!
However I definitely will be reading his "full book"
